For all those and those who are going to accompany us these next months, it is much more than just a trip …

In this new cruel time through which Sri Lanka is going, it is a question of being even more present to our fellow human beings at the other ends of the earth, sharing their anxiety, their suffering, their courage and their respectability …

With an exemplary tenacity, the permanent office of Green Hope in Sri Lanka continues its work. The Ministry of Education has asked Green Hope to set up training for the teachers of the Communities of Hikkaduwa. Training period took place in the Green Hope preschool in Katukoliya. The teachers will learn instructive methods close to the Montessori method, involving singing, dancing, gestures. read...

We did the first concrete act for the plan of the Country Medical Health Centre by signing, with the Manager of the Health centre, Mr Wimal Lokugamheva, the Convention which binds us with " Secouristes Sans Frontières ",the financer of this plan, under the watchful of Ranjani Ekanayaka Kalupahana, Notary.

In the last Diary, we mentioned to you the sponsoring of old persons; our permanent office has sent us on these pictures of this couple in real need, living in their broken-down shack, and also this, paralysed woman, all alone, who needs a wheelchair…… we shall not abandon them …Read

 

Little Dinesh is walking; He is faithful to his rehabilitation , using two long bamboo poles installed for him He will go back to the hospital for an check-up on April 24th.(...) The new mayor of Hikkaduwa phoned our permanent office to ask Green Hope to rebuild the toilets on the public beach which were destroyed by the Tsunami, and we accept this task with pleasure, to erase the traces of the disaster and give back to the big public beach an image of peace and joyful days shared together…Read

 

At the Barbara Hendricks College (Orange, France), A big celebration was being prepared for the benefit of Green Hope. At the beginning of afternoon we met the pupils of the Solidarity Class, finishing the preparations, and gave them news of the children of Patuwatha, with whom they have been corresponding for nearly a year, and introduced the photographs of Dinesh whom we had decided, along with the team in the Collège, to dedicate this party so that the funds collected will allow us to fund his operation without delay, in the best possible conditions.Read

After consultations with specialists in the Apollo Hospital, we decided to go ahead with an operation for Dinesh, a child from Dodanduwa, from a very poor family….in the photos you can see him with his brothers in front of their home. It is a very expensive operation, but we are assured that it will reduce his disability ….to try and give an equal chance for a more pleasant and just life is one of the priorities of Green Hope … Read

To crown these six months of work and achievements, and superb shared encounters, we have the true pleasure of announcing to you the creation of the first Mobile Health Centre in Sri Lanka. We have kept this a big secret, until we were certain of it becoming a reality; now it is certain and will start from next August. Read

Also peaceful this evening is the cricket pitch. Philippe's stilts workshop allowed us to train nine people on stilts to join the parade of the Festival organized by Jean-Christophe in the summer. Dodanduwa Sports Club back to life !
Under a bright sun, the Stadium of Morocola was inaugurated this morning - set in motion after the Tsunami, with thanks to A.O.S , in partnership with Green Hope - in this in-between season of flowers and fruits, when nature is fruitful, before the rains to come....read.

The team from "Plongeurs du Monde" composed of Louis, Serge, Bruno, Christophe and Jeremy started the introduction to diving and the protection of environment for the children of Patuwatha. During the whole week dozens of children are going to discover this activity accompanied with a teaching which will sensitize them to the wealth of their environment...read.

 

Manjulas's Home Every day brings intense moments, laying of foundations, the beginning of a new life….. Sometimes time is needed before the magical moment of happiness: On Wednesday, the foundations of the houses of Malinda, on the Kumara Kanda Road. In the photographs, we can see him, the fisherman, living alone with his parents, since the Tsunami, in two wooden shacks ... read.

 

Dancing courses Berny started the first free lessons of traditional dances from the region last Saturday. An incredible attendance in the Green Hope room in Patuwatha - about two hundred persons waiting from 8 am, to inscribe their children's names. Berny worked with 76 participants on three levels. The first level is that of the study of these sacred dances and lasts five years...read.
